Alumni Ambassadors
The Alumni Ambassador program is a leadership development program for talented and highly motivated alumni. The program aims to support ambassadors to achieve leadership positions within their own organisation, industry and community.
.The program provides ambassadors with:
• Leadership training and mentoring through the Leadership Dialogue workshops
• Opportunities to support the PNGAAA National Executive in planning and decision making for the association
• Opportunities to represent the PNGAAA at high profile diplomatic and Australia Awards events
• Seed funding for projects that will contribute to the goals of the association.
Ambassadors serve a two-year term and are nominated by Australia Awards, their Institutions and their peers as alumni with strong leadership potential and the motivation and time to support the PNGAAA’s mission.

Alumni Grants Scheme
The Alumni Grants Scheme (AGS) is a collaboration between Australia Awards in Papua New Guinea and the PNG Australia Alumni Association, to support alumni to contribute to Papua New Guinea’s economic and social development and build strong and positive relationships with Australia.

Applications for the latest round of the Alumni Grants Scheme are open now. Grants of up to K4,000, K10,000 and K30,000 are available on a competitive basis for innovative projects that contribute to PNG’s development in priority sectors and build strong relationships between PNG and Australia.
Applications for the next round of Alumni Grants will open in the second half of 2023. Please check with us after July for more information.
Applications related to the COVID-19 response are strongly encouraged and will be considered as they are received.
Eligible alumni
Financial members of PNGAAA who hold either regular or associate membership may apply for an alumni grant on behalf of their employing or community organisation, which must also be registered with the Investment Promotion Authority. Applicants must also have an updated profile on 360alumni.
How do I apply for a grant?
The Grants are organised according to three activity categories with different grant values, application procedures and approval processes. To check the conditions of participation and other details, please refer to the Alumni Grants Scheme Guidelines.
Medical kits for health practitioners
In-PNG Scholarships alumni can apply for nursing and midwifery kits valued up to K4,000 under the Category 1 grants. Priority will be given to alumni nurses and midwives located at rural and remote health centres. Consideration will be given to alumni supporting organisations in urban areas who show creative use of the kits.

PNG-Australia Alumni Awards
The PNG-Australia Alumni Awards recognise and honour Papua New Guinean alumni who have studied in Australia and made outstanding contributions to their profession, community and country through their exemplary leadership, integrity, innovation and hard work.
Supported by the Australian High Commission in PNG, the awards are distinguished honours for alumni who are an inspiration in their local, national and international networks. Winners of the Alumni Awards are expected to benefit through increased attention to their public profile and valuable networking opportunities that arise from receiving international recognition. There are four award categories:
- Alumni of the Year
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Australia High Commission Woman in Leadership
- Community Service Engagement

Communities of Practice
The PNGAAA through its online platform – the 360alumni – is establishing a range of online Communities of Practice (CoP) based on the professional and topical issues that are of emerging or special significance to our alumni and their capacity to make contributions to the development of Papua New Guinea.
These CoPs will include participation from both male and female alumni and discussions will be moderated by appropriately qualified volunteer alumni who will be provided with the necessary internet access and CoP moderator training.

Women Alumni Mentoring Initiative
The Women Alumni Mentoring Initiative is a collaboration between Australia Awards in Papua New Guinea and the PNG Australia Alumni Association. It supports women alumni to build their confidence and leadership capabilities and help them increase their contributions to the development of Papua New Guinea.
Applications for the Women Mentoring Initiative are open now. This initiative is a collaboration between Australia Awards in Papua New Guinea and the PNGAAA. The initiative will involve women alumni from across the public, private and civil society sectors. Applications are open to women alumni of Australian Government-funded scholarship programs, as well as women members of the PNG Australia Alumni Association.
About the Women Alumni Mentoring Initiative
• Cohort 3 will commence in July 2022
• Up to 40 people invited to participate as mentors and mentees
• A panel will match mentees with mentors across the public, private, and civil society sectors
• Mentoring training workshops will be provided for mentor and mentee program participants
